There are a few seats that are exceptionally good for parents who don’t own vehicles, however, so we will mention those here.

Top 4 Convertible Car Seats for Ride-Sharing Families
The Cosco Scenera Next and Maxi Cosi Romi are basically the same seat, full review here. But they are not long-lasting, typically outgrown around 2.5-3 years of age. However, these are very lightweight options. Both can fit onto the Mountain Buggy Nano stroller if you are open to buying one. Alternatively, they are also small enough to fit into the baskets of some strollers or you could use a ratchet strap or large carabiner to attach them to the stroller handle.

The Safety 1st Jive is another possible option for you. This seat won’t fit most kids until at least 6 months of age, so don’t skip the infant seat! This seat will last most kids until around 5 years of age. It’s very lightweight, so you may be able to fit it into the basket of your stroller or attach it to the stroller handle with a ratchet strap. We also have a full review for this seat here.
The last option is the most expensive of all. The Orbit Baby Toddler seat can fit onto the Orbit Baby Stroller. This seat will last most kids until 5-6 years of age. The rear-facing weight limit is only 35 pounds, so this would not be suitable for very high-percentile kids.
Forward-Facing Car Seats
There aren’t many forward-facing only harnessed seats (for ages 2+) that are convenient for parents who don’t own vehicles. But here are two of the most popular options.

The WAYB Pico is the easiest of the two options, although it’s also the most expensive. In fact, this seat only weighs 8 pounds and it’s foldable. You can also buy a bag to go with it that makes it easy to carry around. The limits of the seat are 50 pounds and 45″, so it won’t be a long-lasting option for higher percentile kids.

The Cosco Finale is another lightweight option at just 8 pounds and it’s much cheaper than the WAYB Pico. It has 65 pounds and 49″ limits, so it will last a bit longer than the Pico as well. While this seat does have a booster mode, we find that it does not give a good belt fit to most kids, and therefore we do not recommend using it in that mode. But for $60, this is still a good option just for the harness portion. You may be able to attach it to a stroller handle since it’s so light. The Safety 1st Grand is the same seat.
Booster Seats & Vests
Boosters are for kids who are at least 5 years of age and have the maturity to sit properly at all times. Kids will use a booster until 10-12 years of age. This is when traveling with kids gets easy again!

The Ride Safer Travel Vest is a great option for kids who are 5+ years of age. It comes in different sizes, so make sure you use the right one as your child grows. This vest only weighs 1.5 pounds and comes with a backpack to carry it around in! This option does need some practice to use properly, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll be in and out of vehicles quickly!
