Stand Out Features of this Car Seat
Anti-rebound Bar
The Peg Perego Primo Viaggio All-in-One has an anti-rebound bar (ARB) built into it. The anti-rebound bar is an added safety feature for rear-facing that can reduce the secondary movement of the car seat, called rebound, during a crash. When a collision occurs, the car seat will move forward, towards the front of the vehicle, and rotate downward. And as we all know from high school physics, every action has an equal and opposite reaction — so after that initial movement, the car seat will rebound, or “bounce back” towards the backrest of the vehicle seat. The ARB minimizes this bounce-back effect, helping limit the car seat movement and your child inside it! ARBs may also limit the side-to-side rotation of the car seat in a side-impact collision. Overall, it’s a great feature on a rear-facing car seat!
Seat is good for you if
You need to fit 3 across.
Since this seat is only 17″ wide, it can fit 3 across in some vehicles. It doesn’t have any ease of installation features, so it’s not as easy to install 3 car seats with this seat, but it is doable. See our blog here for more narrow car seat options and our YouTube video.
You have a tall child.
This is where the Primo Viaggio All-in-One's harness height comes in. Many of our other favorite convertible car seats have the tallest harness setting in the 17″ range. But this seat's is 18″. A school-age child’s torso grows roughly an inch per year, so that extra harness height can mean extra longevity out of your child’s convertible car seat!
You want to use a convertible seat from birth.
This seat’s lowest harness height is 4″, so it will fit average or larger newborns from birth if you want to skip the infant seat. This seat has a good recline setting for infants, so it works well in that regard too, and it's fairly compact front-to-back. We have added a picture of the lowest harness position to show how impressively low it goes!If you are expecting a premature or low birth weight baby, we would recommend a different seat like one of these. The smallest baby we have been able to try in it so far was a 2-month-old, as pictured here.
You want a seat with high rear-facing limits.
The Peg Perego Viaggio All-in-One car seat has 50-pound/47" limits for the rear-facing mode. It also has excellent legroom for the child. The legroom can be increased even further by adjusting the anti-rebound bar, as you can see in the picture.
Use caution if
You have a child with a broader build.
The seat is on the narrower side, so some older kids may find it uncomfortable. For reference, we have a 10-year-old who has a tall and skinny build. Even she finds the highback booster mode uncomfortable despite being far below the maximum limits for the booster mode at only 53" and 53 pounds.
Quirks to be aware of
Rear-facing harness height
Not all of the harness heights can be used for rear-facing. There is an indicator on the back of the seat that shows you when the maximum harness height for rear-facing is reached.
Child Fit Information
We have pictured here an almost 5 month old. She is around 16 pounds and 24 inches tall.
Installation Information
Airplane Use
The Peg Perego Primo Viaggio All-in-One car seat has aircraft approval in the rear and forward-facing harness modes. However, this seat weighs 28 pounds so it's not one of the easier options to take on a trip. SITS Bottom Line
The Peg Perego Primo Viaggio All-in-One car seat's flame-retardant-free fabric and narrow 17-inch width make it a good choice for families who prioritize chemical-free materials, while also needing a seat that can fit three across in certain vehicles. The seat also offers high rear-facing limits, excellent legroom, and an 18-inch top harness height, providing extra longevity for taller children. It fits average or larger newborns well and is compact front-to-back.
