Just like wearing both contacts and glasses at the Just like wearing both contacts and glasses at the same time doesn’t make you see better, using both lower anchor connectors and a seatbelt to install your car seat doesn’t make it safer.

⚠️One OR the other! (*yes, there are very few exceptions, see below).

Most manufacturers prohibit the use of both methods at the same time because they either did not crash-test using both systems or they did a crash-test using both and the test FAILED.

Use one method or the other, NOT BOTH. Car seats and how we safely and securely connect them to cars is not a matter of preference. These systems are engineered and tested to handle crash forces in very specific ways—don’t mess with that!

So what could happen if you do use both (but now you aren’t going to so you could probably skip this part):
🚫 put more stress on the belt path than it can withstand causing the seat to break
🚫 concentrate the crash forces on a smaller area and not diffuse them across the car seat (and your child’s body)
🚫 impact the “ride down” effect that happens after a crash, causing the lower anchor or seatbelt webbing to not react the way it’s intended to
🚫 make you think you have a tight installation when you actually don’t
🚫 cross over one another or overlap and interfere with their ability to activate properly in a crash
🚫 break the lock off if both methods are being routed through one

*The exception (because there always are): Clek Foonf (when forward-facing) and all seats in the Nuna Pipa series can be installed using both lower anchors and a seatbelt at the same time. We good?!
Messes happen! When it comes to cleaning your car Messes happen! When it comes to cleaning your car seat let’s make sure you’re doing it by the book!

Your car seat manual will detail how to clean the car seat, whether the cover/parts are removable or not, if they can be machine washed and/or dried, and the cleaning products permitted for use.

In most cases (Check your manual for your seat’s specifics!):
🧹 Vacuum out the crumbs, gunk and who knows what else
💦 Water only to wipe down harness straps.
🫧 A mild soap, like Dawn, can be used to spot clean
☀️ Sunshine works wonders to get rid of nasty smells

⚠️ If you clean your car seat with products that are not approved for use, then you compromise the integrity of the car seat and alter its functionality and efficacy in a crash.

➡️The tensile strength of the harness can be weakened when certain chemicals are used on it.

➡️ The fabric has to pass flame retardant standards and unapproved products can strip that layer.

If you are reading this and breathing into a bag because you cleaned your car seat in an unsafe way, call your car seat manufacturer and talk it through with them. They will advise you as to what’s best.

Pro tip: If you have a seat with a removable cover and you are the adventurous type who is going to remove it to wash, then video yourself taking it off, step-by-step. Trust me and the thousands of us who have attempted such a mission.

We just dropped a new YouTube video too where I take my daughter’s nasty seat and clean it step-by step!
Is your kiddo’s car seat looking a little 🤢? Is your kiddo’s car seat looking a little 🤢?

Check out our latest YouTube video where I’ll take you through all the dos and don’ts and even take one of my kids’ seats from filthy to fresh.

⚠️ Warning! If you clean your car seat with products that are not approved for use, then you compromise the integrity of the car seat and alter its functionality and efficacy in a crash.

Are you a regular car seat cleaner or do you let it linger?
